Prostějov - The city hall of Prostějov is preparing a renovation of Žižkov Square in the historical center of the city. Experts have already prepared a proposal for modifications of this public space, which aims to restore its original purpose. Automobile traffic is therefore deprioritized in the plan, and pedestrians are to be given priority in the square. The city hall will present the proposal to the public on Thursday. This was announced on Facebook.
Experts proposed to create relaxation areas with a new water feature in the central part of Žižkov Square. The space along the western and eastern buildings is intended primarily for the operation of summer gardens of local restaurants. The project also includes the replacement of furniture and lighting in Žižkov Square. "One of the key goals of the proposals was to make the square greener and create a space for pleasant time spent, especially during the summer months," the announcement stated.
The authors of the proposal and representatives of the city hall discussed it with the National Heritage Institute, as the alterations pertain to an area within the city’s heritage zone. According to the city hall, the project respects significant architectural buildings while also proposing as much greenery as possible. "Thanks to this compromise, it was possible to place a new row of trees consisting of 13 trees along the eastern buildings in the square," the city hall stated.
The upcoming measures will also improve rainwater management in this part of Prostějov. Asphalt surfaces, parking spaces, and walkways will be covered with new stone paving. Rainwater will therefore be absorbed into the ground directly at the site or channeled into green areas and a retention tank that will be used for irrigation.
The proposal for the modifications of Žižkov Square is part of a spatial study focused on the gradual renovation of the entire center of Prostějov, which includes Žižkov Square, T. G. Masaryk Square, Svatopluk Čech Square, and the Dukelská Gate.
