Prague - President Václav Klaus will today present a honorary plaque to sculptor Olbram Zoubek on the occasion of his eightieth birthday. He will receive him in the afternoon at Prague Castle. The honorary plaque of the President of the Republic is a new award that Klaus will bestow for the second time. The first recipient of the plaque in early April was the famous World War II pilot František Peřina, who celebrated his 95th birthday this year. Olbram Zoubek became known to the wider public in 1969 when he cast the death mask of Jan Palach and created a relief for his gravestone as well as for the gravestone of his successor Jan Zajíc. Zoubek's unmistakable figures, characterized by a slim verticality, surface modeling, and expressive gestures and postures, are well known today. They also adorn numerous public buildings. On the occasion of his anniversary this year, a retrospective exhibition of his works is on display at the Fruit Market in Prague 1 since the beginning of April. Today, a composed program with fireworks will take place on site at 21:30.
