Brno - The company ČSAD Brno-město holding, which operates the bus station in Brno at Zvonařka, expects to begin its reconstruction in the summer. It is currently waiting for confirmation of a grant from European funds and is finalizing preparations so that construction can begin shortly after receiving the grant. The construction, valued at around one hundred million, must be completed by next autumn, said Antonín Grund, the chairman of the board, to ČTK.

The current station dates back to the second half of the 1970s. It does not meet modern travel standards and is significantly worn. The company is preparing the modernization according to the design of young and successful Brno architects from the studio Chybik+Kristof Architects.

"We are finalizing the work on the execution project documentation and preparing a tender for the contractor. We should have the grant confirmed in the coming weeks. Its conditions are strict, so we cannot afford any delays,” said Grund. For passengers, this should mean roughly a year of restrictions when traveling from Zvonařka.

Despite the fact that many regional buses no longer depart from this station and stop at public transport hubs, about 1,000 buses, including international lines, pass through Zvonařka daily, and the number of passengers ranges from 25,000 to 30,000 daily.

According to the architects, Zvonařka is a quality expression of brutalist architecture. "It just needs to have its structure cleaned and the lighting adjusted so that people do not feel gloomy while at the station,” said architect Ondřej Chybík earlier. A new check-in hall will also be created near the Opuštěná street. The original hall on Plotní street will be renovated and will serve administrative purposes and as a base for drivers. The southern part of the station will have a parking lot for cars. Currently, the Dornych street is being reconstructed to allow the tram line to be moved to Plotní street once it is completed. The stop will thus be directly at the station after 40 years.
