Prague - Prague road workers have selected the designer for the repair of the Mánes Bridge, which is the consortium of companies PX/PGP - Mánes Bridge, comprising Pontex and Pragoprojekt. The tender winner will provide the Technical Communications Administration with the necessary documents for the repair as well as for the selection of the company that will carry out the repair. CTK was informed by TSK spokesperson Barbora Lišková. The project will cost about 18 million crowns.

The Mánes Bridge was opened on March 11, 1914, and was originally named after the Austrian heir to the throne, Archduke Francis Ferdinand. The bridge is classified as being in poor condition, rated in the fifth category on a seven-point scale, and repair is necessary. However, according to experts, serious problems during repairs should not occur.

In addition to the documents necessary for discussion with the relevant authorities and the documentation for selecting the builder, the chosen consortium must also perform geodetic surveying of the construction site to the required extent and provide the results of the geodetic survey, as well as determine the condition and routes of existing relevant engineering networks. It will also assess property relations in the vicinity.

At the same time, it will propose urbanistic and architectural solutions, determine basic materials and color schemes. Additionally, it will address any potential traffic restrictions and ensure greenery, and propose solutions for minor outdoor architecture and urban furniture. The timeline and costs of the reconstruction are not yet known, and the traffic restrictions will only arise from the final shape of the project.

"The condition of the bridge corresponds to its age and traffic load. Last year we repaired one of the fountains. We also have complete diagnostics, including a construction-historical survey, and we have a maintenance plan until the reconstruction," Lišková added.

The Mánes Bridge connects the Old Town and Klárov and is made of concrete and partially reinforced concrete. The bridge replaced the original chain footbridge, Rudolf's Bridge, which served the people of Prague since 1869 and was located a few meters downstream. It was dismantled only after the new bridge was completed, which was named after the painter Josef Mánes after the establishment of Czechoslovakia.
