Prague - The leadership of the Prague 6 municipality has decided to expand the heritage protection of the Baba settlement. Currently, the settlement is protected as a whole; moving forward, each villa is to be protected individually. This was reported to ČTK by the spokesperson for Prague 6, Edita Valentová. Recently, parts of two functionalist houses have been demolished in Baba. The Baba settlement consists of 33 houses. In 1993, Baba was declared a city heritage zone. "This type of blanket protection is completely inadequate today," said deputy mayor Eva Smutná. The city council therefore decided to extend the protection of monuments to individual villas. "This will allow us to respond flexibly to the varying conditions of the preservation of buildings and simultaneously emphasize their specific individuality," Smutná stated. The municipality did not specify when this will occur. In Prague 6, the demolition of parts of two rare villas known as Čeňkův and Košťálova villa has begun. The houses are located on Na Ostrohu street and two underground parking spaces are to be created there. In the past, several villas have been demolished in Prague 6, the most recent demolition involved a villa on Náměstí Před Bateriemi near the evangelical church in Střešovice. From the historically valuable locality of Ořechovka, two villas disappeared without permission. One of them belonged to the famous fashion designer Blanka Matragi. For both demolitions, the authorities imposed penalties. However, the magistrate ultimately revoked the fine for Matragi.
