Prague - Prague 6 today approved the reconstruction of the Petynka sports and relaxation area. The swimming pool is expected to be transformed by the end of 2019. This will be an investment of approximately 170 million crowns. The town hall's spokesperson Martin Churavý informed CTK about the council's decision. The opposition Greens criticize the town hall for not announcing an architectural competition.
"The joint-stock company SNEO, which owns the area, will start preparing the project documentation at the instruction of the shareholder in October this year, with the goal of obtaining a building permit in 2018," said the spokesperson. The facility will feature a 25-meter pool, saunas, a children's pool, and a second pool with a surf wave. A restaurant will serve visitors. It will be open year-round.
The shape of the area will be determined by a student competition aimed at students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering. However, according to the Greens, architects should have a say in the reconstruction. The deputy mayor Petra Kolínská (SZ) told CTK that she will in the future request that the town hall announce architectural competitions for all projects co-financed by the city. "I consider it important that this is the case for all significant buildings funded from public resources," she stated.
The joint-stock company SNEO is responsible for investments and property management in Prague 6. The initial capital amounts to nearly 250 million crowns. In the past, it primarily dealt with the privatization of apartments. The current council reorganized the company last year, eliminated costly external legal services, and changed the company's management. According to Mayor Ondřej Kolář (TOP 09), the goal was "to break the clientelist network and resuscitate the company."
