Prague - The council of Prague 12 has canceled the selection process for a new city hall. The reason is administrative errors, said Jan Decker, spokesperson for Prague 12, to ČTK today. The municipality wants to relocate its officials to the new city hall, and therefore announced a selection procedure in the spring. Meanwhile, however, both the coalition and the mayor have changed at the city hall. According to the spokesperson, the current leadership of the municipality wants to continue with the project and will announce the selection process again after modifications.
"The current council (...) believes that there were administrative errors during the assignment of the contract, and therefore it is not possible to continue with the original project. For this reason, it is preparing a new transparent assignment with a clearly defined goal, which will be the new building of the city hall of Prague 12," Decker stated.
Prague 12, according to the former leadership, needs a building for 250 officials. The options would include constructing a new building or utilizing an already built facility. The municipality initially wanted to rent a building with a fixed price for a possible future purchase of the property. The municipality expected that the costs for purchasing the city hall would not exceed half a billion including VAT.
The selection process was intended to be in two rounds, where interested parties would first apply, after which the city hall would provide them with the tender documents and negotiate specific conditions.
The municipality aims to use 160 million crowns for the new city hall, which it recently obtained from the sale of the Točná airport. Additional funds will come from the sale of the current office buildings, from privatization, and from the rental of the Prior department store.
Currently, the municipal office is located in seven buildings, which according to spokesperson Decker are poorly accessible. The buildings are not near public transport stops and do not have barrier-free access. The municipality considered years ago finishing the currently used building on Písková Street. The previous leadership also wanted to renovate the Prior department store at Sofia Square.
Other municipalities are also considering a new city hall, for example, Prague 8 wants to build a new city hall and shopping center near Palmovka. The costs will exceed one billion crowns.
