Prague - Prague 12 wants to repair the dilapidated vineyard cottage in Modřany this year. Martin Štengl, the deputy mayor, told ČTK. The reconstruction of the building and the revitalization of the adjacent vineyard are expected to cost more than 30 million crowns. Part of the funding will be obtained from European funds. By mid-year, initial emergency works ordered by the heritage protection department should be completed on the vineyard cottage. According to Štengl, the works will include strengthening the foundation, insulation of the building, repair of the wooden structures, rafters, and roof. The city hall has also applied again for a building permit for an extension to the cottage, which will house the social and technical facilities of the building. Prague 12 also plans to revitalize the surrounding land, repair the wall, and the adjacent road at the upper part of the vineyard. The emergency works will cost the municipality about 9.5 million crowns. The extension and park improvements will require another 12 million, while Prague 12 will spend nearly the same amount on the repair of the historic wall and work on Nad Vinicí and Barunčina streets. "From European funds and the state budget, we have 8.1 million crowns for this project called Modřanské výhledy," Štengl told ČTK. After reconstruction, an exhibition on the history of the Modřany vineyard will be established in the vineyard house. The city hall also intends to use part of the building for cultural events. The city leadership also planned for the building to serve as a ceremonial hall. The reconstruction of the building in the Modřany vineyard area was approved by the city leadership in the previous electoral period, but its realization was postponed. The last postponement occurred last year when the magistrate revoked the building permit because Prague 12 allegedly did not consult the current tenants of the vineyard cottage in the building process. Opposition councilors had previously criticized the city's approach and the extension proposal. The Modřany vineyard estate is a significant architectural and natural monument. The preserved cottage, which is listed as a cultural monument, dates back to the first half of the 18th century.
