Prague – A new kindergarten on Bajkalská Street in Prague 10 will be built for the district by a consortium of companies Geosan and Vistoria for 128.5 million crowns. With reference to the decision of the district's councilors, the spokesperson for the town hall, Jan Hamrník, informed ČTK. The new building will be constructed on the site of the original kindergarten, which is in poor condition and will be demolished. Work is expected to begin in June, and completion is estimated to take 20 months.

According to earlier information from the district, the new kindergarten is to have six classrooms with a capacity of 24 children per class. The facility will consist of three pavilions, one will have two classrooms, the second four, and the third will be administrative. Initially, construction was supposed to start earlier, but preparations were delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

First, the existing kindergarten, which the town hall management claims is in poor condition, will be demolished. "Currently, MŠ Bajkalská operates as a two-class facility, in separate spaces of the Vladivostocká kindergarten," added Hamrník.

The tenth municipal district commissioned a demographic analysis two years ago, according to which there are not enough places in schools and kindergartens. The town hall completed a new kindergarten on Nad Vodovodem Street last year, and besides Bajkalská, plans also include renovating an empty former school near Strašnická, as well as additional construction or extensions of schools in Zahradní Město, Vršovice, and Malešice. Similar plans are also being made by other municipal districts, especially on the outskirts of the metropolis, as well as Prague 5 and Prague 3 in connection with residential construction.

According to population, Prague 10 is the second largest municipal district in Prague after Prague 4, with approximately 110,000 residents. It includes all of Vršovice, most of Strašnice and Malešice, as well as parts of Záběhlice, Michle, Vinohrady, Hrdlořezy, Hloubětín, and Žižkov. The municipal district currently operates 13 elementary schools and 20 kindergartens.
