Prague - Prague 10 wants to take over the management of the chateau in Malešice, which is owned by the capital city and rented out. A local cultural and social center could be created there. The request for the transfer of the buildings and land to the district was approved today by the representatives of Prague 10. The chateau was built in the 17th century on the site of the original Gothic fortress. Currently, it is used, for example, as a car repair shop.

Malešice Square, with the chapel of Saint Wenceslaus and the surrounding development, forms the historic core of old Malešice and is a protected monument zone. "Malešice deserves a dignified restoration of the historical center, which has been preserved unlike other districts," said representative Milan Maršálek (coalition Vlasta).

The rectangular compound is located directly at Malešice Square. The chateau was built in the 17th century on the site of the original Gothic fortress. It includes several farm buildings, including a preserved Baroque granary and a barn with segmental arcades. The interiors feature vaulted spaces with ribbed vaults and original beam ceilings.

"The chateau complex has the potential to become a community center with spaces for the public life of Malešice residents. Due to its location and public transport accessibility, the building along with its grounds has the potential to serve as a local center, which the area currently lacks," states the rationale for the adopted resolution by the council. The capital city rented the chateau until the end of 2015 to the Prague Agricultural Company.

The protected monument is also owned by the district in Vršovice, "the chateau" was originally a silk production building. Two years ago, it completed an extensive renovation costing more than a quarter of a billion crowns. The building housed the Vršovice town hall, and today it hosts a retirement home and a ceremonial hall for weddings and welcoming new citizens.
