Železná Ruda (Klatovsko) - Exactly a year after the city announced its plan to build a giant eighteen-hole golf course in Železná Ruda, the one hundred and twenty-hectare site in the Šumava nature is ready for investors. The town hall is currently negotiating with two companies with foreign participation based in the Czech Republic and with experience in the field. They are assessing the city’s proposed project as well as their possibilities in terms of costs, which will be in the range of tens of millions of crowns, said the mayor of Železná Ruda, Michal Šnebergr.
"The council will approve the second change to the zoning plan on June 10, which will definitively resolve the land issue," he added. It will be a natural course in a tourist-attractive location. There are limits concerning nature conservation, which a strong investor will handle, the mayor noted.
"The vast majority of meadows and forests are owned by Lesy ČR, from whom we have their consent," said the mayor. The Šumava Protected Landscape Area is not opposed either. The complex, where only minimal construction is planned, must preserve the natural character of all areas to the maximum extent. According to Šnebergr, this will be a tourist attraction. "When I look at neighboring Germany, where there are much smaller golf courses that are sparsely equipped and functional, one can expect that our far superior courses would attract more visitors," he added. Professional courses are demanded by tourists who would travel from 17 kilometers away in Zwiesel, where the nearest course is located, and from the practice meadow Liščí near Nýrsko.
"As soon as the investor says yes, we are going for it immediately. We want to start as soon as possible," said the mayor, who believes that even such interesting projects may be delayed by the crisis. He hopes that construction will begin this year.
Initially, the course was to be created as a cross-border project. "That has fallen through, as the German side was unable to secure the land. The activity is now only on the Czech side," explained Šnebergr.
In the Plzeň region, there are professional courses in Alfrédov in Tachov, in Dýšina and Spálené Poříčí in Plzeň, and in Darová in Rokycansko. Another sixteen-hectare championship course with nine holes will be created within a year in the border area Liščí louka near Nýrsko.
