Prague - Czech Post has announced a tender for the main post office building at the corner of Politických vězňů and Jindřišská streets in Prague. The starting price is 1.538 billion crowns without VAT. The tender was preceded by an offer of the property to state institutions, which no one took advantage of. This information comes from Czech Post’s announcements on the website.

The tender will take the form of an envelope method with the right of the city of Prague to match the highest bid. The branch of the main post office on Jindřišská Street will be preserved, and the new owner will have to sign a lease agreement with the post office.

The building was constructed between 1871 and 1890, with its first major renovation taking place from 1896 to 1899. Another significant renovation occurred between 1912 and 1921. This also influenced the valuation of the property, which was the basis for calculating the starting price. From 1996 to 1999, builders conducted a general reconstruction of the building.

The building, which currently houses the management of the company, is being sold by Czech Post together with the house on Moravská Street, where the price is 62.39 million crowns. The City of Prague has previously expressed interest in both this property and the building on Politických vězňů.

So far this year, the post office has generated over 200 million crowns from the sale of unnecessary property. The company plans to offer dozens of unneeded properties by the end of the year, including post office buildings, administrative buildings, land, and apartments.

Through the sale of properties, the post office is trying to stabilize its finances. Last year ended with a loss of 1.7 billion crowns, and a billion crown decline is also expected this year. In two years, the company is set to transform into an operator of branches and a commercial Parcel Center.
