Ostrava - Ostrava-Poruba has reconstructed Urxova Street, which was built in the 1950s. The restoration lasted from April to the end of July and cost about seven million crowns. The street features new sidewalks, roads, and public lighting, said Jana Končítková, spokesperson for the Poruba town hall.
"The reconstruction of Urxova Street was carried out without radical interventions in the greenery, yet thanks to the trimming, we managed to achieve its illumination," stated the deputy mayor of the Poruba district, Petr Mihálik.
Urxova Street is the third in line that the district has rejuvenated in the last two years. The streets Alšova and Budovatelská have been repaired, and now the city is renovating part of Čs. Exile Street. It should be completed by the end of September and the district will pay 5.5 million crowns for its repair.
"We often take walks with my husband on these streets, and the change is noticeable at first glance. I would welcome if the spaces in the courtyards between the houses were also renovated so that children could play there," said resident of the first Poruba district, Zdeňka Duhanová.
According to the mayor of the Poruba district, Lumír Palyza, the streets in this part of Poruba suffered from the emergency condition of the roads and sidewalks, as well as outdated infrastructure. "Thanks to the comprehensive reconstruction, the first Poruba district is gaining not only in aesthetics but mainly in functionality. In the revitalization of the streets, we took into account the residents' requests for calming and slowing down traffic, and we partially increased the number of parking spaces," said Palyza.
The street M. Kopeckého and part of Čs. Exile Street still remain in their original unsatisfactory condition. The commencement of their repair was prevented by a decision of the Czech Environmental Inspection from February of this year.
