Prague - The monument to Milada Horáková, who was executed by the communist regime 65 years ago, will be solemnly unveiled on November 16, in front of the building of the Chamber of Deputies. Construction will begin next week, informed the spokesperson for Prague 1, Veronika Blažková. The author of the winning design is sculptor Josef Faltus, whose work was selected among 23 authors. The monument is to be funded by a public collection, which has raised nearly 150,000 crowns. Approximately half of that amount was contributed by American compatriots.

Lawyer and National Socialist deputy Horáková (1901 to 1950) was executed by the communists after a staged trial. "I consider the placement of the monument in the vicinity of Parliament, where decisions significantly impacting the present and future history of the Czech nation are made, to be more than appropriate," stated the mayor of Prague 1, Oldřich Lomecký (TOP 09).
In honor of Horáková, a monument with a bust was created in Prague in 2009 in the park at Hrdinů Square in Prague 4, near the Pankrác prison and courthouse. Another statue of her is planned to be unveiled by Prague 2, which should be located in the Ztracenka park near the New Town ramparts at Albertov.
