Polička - On June 25, the city of Polička in the Svitavy region will open the renovated representative hall of the town hall with a baroque music concert. Inside, inappropriate alterations from the 1980s were made. The building, in the baroque style, is a national cultural monument, and the local government is having it gradually restored, as stated in a press release.
"The furnishings and decoration of the main meeting hall were destroyed in the fire of the city in 1845. The current restoration is therefore not a reconstruction of the original state, as we do not know it. The artistic approach chosen for the restoration evokes the possible atmosphere of the original environment," said art historian David Junek.
The floor features dichromatic parquet flooring of the castle type with a Viennese cross, and the color scheme is in the same shades as the baroque chapel. For lighting, the city selected crystal chandeliers that represent the Czech glass-making tradition. The hall is adorned with drapes in the baroque style.
Since 1994, the representative hall has been used for exhibitions of the Polička Gallery and showcases world-famous examples of 16th-century Dutch painting from the collection of the Hohenems family. It is accessible during gallery tours. The city will use the hall for representative purposes, and it will also be possible to hold wedding ceremonies there.
The concert will take place on June 25 at 18:00. The trio of performers, Bedřiška Ponížilová, Adéla Chvátalová, and Renée Bernatíková, will perform baroque music.
The Polička town hall was completed in 1744. Part of the tower dates back to the Gothic period, probably from the time of Charles IV. The original Gothic chapel has been preserved on the first floor of the tower. The city is restoring the facade and has completed the restoration of the tower.
