Jihlava - After the successful completion of the renovation of the Silver House, Jihlava wants to continue the restoration of other historical properties. Work could begin next year on three more houses in the city center. The estimated cost of their repairs is over 100 million crowns, representatives of the Jihlava city hall told reporters today. The reconstruction of the Silver House cost 80 million crowns, and the city hall will officially open it on May 15.
One of the houses prepared for renovation is the House of Our Lady at 35. It should host an experiential exhibition representing the life of Jihlava residents in the 19th century, said Deputy Mayor Martin Laštovička (KDU-ČSL). The repair, estimated at 35 million crowns, is expected to start next spring. In addition, the city plans to begin repairs on the Gate of Our Lady for 25 to 30 million crowns at the same time.
"At the same time, we are also discussing the reconstruction of (the house) Masaryk Square 18," added Mayor Petr Ryška (ODS). The estimated costs are about 50 million crowns. The city wants to use the house for community life in the city. It could also house children's groups, or the city could build new classrooms for the basic art school or apartments in it.
The Silver House began its renovation at the end of 2021 and has been owned by the city since 1907. The city hall received 39 million from so-called Norwegian funds for its renovation. The historical building in the heritage reserve will serve the public after its opening. A tea house will return to it, and it will include an exhibition with copies of unique finds unearthed during the renovation from the well in the courtyard. The equipment of a medieval mint was found there. "That is why the house was retroactively named the Silver House," Laštovička added. The city organization Brána Jihlavy or the Center for Documentary Films will also be based in the house. It will also include a community hall or an apartment intended for special city visits.
The reconstruction of not only the Silver House will be addressed at a professional conference on Architecture of Recovery. It will take place on May 16 and 17. The author of the Silver House renovation proposal, Marek Štěpán, archaeologist Šimon Kochan, and Norwegian architect Anne Carlsen will also speak at it. The public program related to the festive opening of the house will take place from May 17 to 19.
