Pilsen – The councilors of the Pilsen Region today approved the distribution of the first 32 million CZK for the renovation of the former municipal baths in Pilsen, which the region purchased last October for 120 million CZK. In the extensive building near the center, which had deteriorated for 30 years, the West Bohemian Gallery will primarily be located, along with a large hall, clubrooms, and offices for regional and non-profit organizations. The money will go towards the architectural study, the demolition of the back addition of the boiler room and steam, and the preparation for the competition for the reconstruction contractor. The renovation is expected to cost between 1.5 to 2 billion CZK by the year 2026. The region has allocated 100 million CZK in this year's budget for preparatory work and demolition. This was stated by the governor Rudolf Špoták (Pirates) to ČTK.
"The amount of 32 million CZK is for studies, the preparation of the tender for demolition work, and for the preparation of documentation up to the building permit for the tender for the future contractor, who should carry it out within the Design & Build framework (a construction arrangement where the client only specifies the purpose and scope, and the contractor is also responsible for the design)," said Deputy Governor Martin Záhoř (YES). Today, according to the preliminarily proposed disposal solution, the councilors approved the concept of the architectural study, which, according to the governor, is already in progress and could be completed by the end of the summer.
"The working study will still be commented on from a technical standpoint, and then KCPK (Cultural Center of the Pilsen Region, a company fully owned by the region) should further develop it," said Záhoř. Furthermore, the relevant state administration authorities, from hygienists to conservationists to the police, need to express their opinions on the matter. "All preparatory work should be completed by the end of this year, or at the latest at the beginning of next year. Subsequently, the competition would be held using the Design & Build method," he stated. According to the governor, it is realistic to announce the competition by the end of the year.
"The building permit for demolition has already been issued, and we are preparing documentation and a bill of quantities, and the regional Central Purchasing will announce the competition," Záhoř said. According to him, demolition could theoretically begin in the middle of the year.
Currently, an architectural study for the renovation is being prepared by 12 architects and designers for KCPK, half of whom are located in Prague. "The main architect of the project is Eva Heyworth, who is the second most prominent 'lady of architecture' in the Czech Republic after Eva Jiřičná, and her most well-known work is the reconstruction of the Municipal House in Prague; she spent many years in London," stated Hynek Gloser, the managing director of KCPK.
