Plzeň - Plzeň will build a new grandstand at the athletics stadium on Vejprnická street in the Skvrňany district next to the sports high school for approximately 150 million korunas excluding value-added tax. This will expand the spectator areas, athletes will gain a training hall and changing rooms. There will be three training running tracks on the roof of the building. The city has already prepared the project and is still addressing the funding, said city hall spokesperson Barbora Hájková today to ČTK.

"The athletic club AK Škoda Plzeň is very successful and the city has been supporting it for a long time. However, athletes are encountering insufficient training space and changing room capacities," said Mayor Roman Zarzycký (ANO). According to him, the first floor will have a training hall and test rooms for athletes' performance tests, club changing rooms with sanitary facilities, and changing rooms for guests. "The second floor with a tartan surface would serve athletes as a training area and, during competitions, for visitors," said councilor for sports Tomáš Morávek (PRO Plzeň). The roof will be grassy, and the city will have three tartan tracks for uphill running training built in the center. There will be 29 parking spaces on the ground floor.

Since January, there has been a new two-story athletic tunnel with facilities worth 118 million korunas on the premises. It was built by the region as the founder of the high school. It is adjacent to the sports hall. The construction includes parking for more than 50 cars.

"The sports high school has had a modern sports hall since 2016, which has been operationally connected to the new athletic tunnel since January. It is designed to meet the requirements of the international athletics federation," said governor Rudolf Špoták (Pirates). Athletes there have modern facilities with relaxation areas, a sauna, and physiotherapy. "Besides athletes, our other core sports, such as judokas, volleyball players, and others can also train there," said the school's sports preparation representative Lukáš Lintimer.
