Exhibition Witch Trials in the Jeseníky region in the 17th century
Jeseník - The planned opening of a new unique exhibition on geology at the Local Museum of Jeseník ended in failure. The exhibition, costing roughly seven million crowns, was supposed to be opened in mid-June, but the construction company has not yet handed over the work. Due to this, according to the museum's director, the museum lost revenue from the main season, and the company has already been fined 2.7 million crowns. According to the county management, the provider will seek to enforce the penalty. The company’s management defends itself, claiming they were not responsible for the problems. They intend to complete the exhibition this month.
The exhibition titled Earth's Time Spiral was supposed to be open to the public from June 19. The museum announced its opening with a large promotional campaign, which ultimately had to be canceled. "The work has not yet been handed over by the Horstav company; the deadline was supposed to be May 27. Since then, a penalty of 30,000 crowns per day has been accruing, which now amounts to 2.7 million. We have lost quite a bit of revenue and have been harmed in our reputation. We have been working on this for years with a team of people, it is incredibly demotivating," said the museum director Veronika Rybová today to ČTK.
The exhibition could not be opened on time due to problems with audiovisual technology and graphics. The situation is also unpleasant for the Olomouc Region, which is the institution's provider. "The company committed in the tender that if they do not complete the work on time, a penalty would be applied. I assume they will have to pay it. If they do not pay voluntarily, we will certainly pursue it," said Deputy Governor Radovan Rašťák to ČTK today. "It seems that the company fundamentally underestimated particularly the professional aspect of the exhibition's equipment. It is now up to the company how they will approach this. We are troubled by this just as the museum management is. The only option would have been to terminate the contract. However, the work is near completion, and that would not be wise," added Rašťák.
According to company representatives, the exhibition should be completed this month. However, they deny any wrongdoing on their part. "The technical parameters of the sound were not clarified, and everything was being designed and developed during operation. It looks like it is already fine-tuned and will be operational soon. There was no cooperation from the client, the task was unclear. I believe it will be clarified," said Michal Horák, the company’s manager, to ČTK today.
The new exhibition on geology is being created in the renovated spaces of the museum. Visitors will be able to journey through a spiral depicting the formation and development of the Earth as well as the geomorphological development of Jeseník. The exhibition will include films, BBC documentaries, photographs, collection items, and models. A highlight is a projection on a glacier model. The voice of actor Arnošt Goldflam will guide visitors through the exhibition.
