Písek - Písek plans to renovate the bus station building to align with the concept of so-called smart cities. This means that the reconstructed building will be energy-efficient. The cost of restoring the bus station building is estimated in the range of single to tens of millions of crowns, which will be covered by the Taiwanese company Tatung, a producer of white goods, which wants to expand into Europe through Písek. This was stated by the deputy mayor of Písek, Josef Knot (TOP 09).

"Everything is based on the concept of smart cities. Our goal is to significantly reduce the energy consumption of the current bus station building, and it will also be much more comfortable for passengers," said Knot.

He added that the project was created based on a memorandum signed by representatives of the South Bohemian transport company ČSAD Autobusy České Budějovice, the company E-ON, the Taiwanese industrial company Tatung, and the city of Písek. According to Knot, the reconstruction will take place later this year. "It will be further practical evidence that the main purpose of the smart city concept is to improve the lives of its inhabitants," Knot stated.

Písek joined the smart city concept two years ago, which aims to ensure an ecological and energy-saving environment for people. The project was supported by the Ministry of the Environment. The smart city concept primarily involves the introduction of new technologies or changes in the transportation system.

The city had previously established cooperation with Tatung, which employs 30,000 people and has an annual turnover of four billion US dollars (approximately 83 billion crowns). Last year, Knot mentioned that Tatung wants to hire computer experts in Písek to develop activities in the Internet of Things in the Czech Republic.
