Pardubice - The city of Pardubice will have an architectural study created for Jan Perner Square, which was established after the demolition of a residential building near the train station and a new bus terminal. Architects will propose how the place could look, and it does not necessarily have to be built upon. This was stated to ČTK by Mayor Jan Nadrchal (ANO).
Due to the terminal, the city had part of a residential building demolished. For several years, three tenants did not want to leave their apartments; the city negotiated with them about alternative housing since 2015. They moved out last year, and the demolition of the building followed. Instead, a smaller square was created, with the train station and the terminal for public transport on one side and the intercity bus terminal, which the city will open in June, on the other side. "The architectural study is an ideal proposal for what could be done on the site of the demolished building; it is not something that would bind us," said Nadrchal.
The city has announced the competition conditions, and the results may be available within six months. Architects will propose the use of the area, including possible construction. "I am looking forward to what will come out of it. I do not completely agree with the architects' conviction that it should be closed off and that a cohesive building must be created there. I like open spaces. But that is my layman's perspective on the matter. We will see how the architects handle it. And we do not have to adhere to it," Nadrchal said.
The new bus terminal, which will serve regional transport, will be operational from June 11, when new schedules will take effect. At the same time, the old bus station will cease to exist. Costs will be around 130 million crowns, with a European subsidy of about 100 million crowns.
