Ostrava - The police are investigating a public contract for the construction of the Evolution Pavilion at the Ostrava Zoo. According to the Ministry of Finance, there was a mistake during the tender process conducted for the city by the private company Seller Moravia. This was confirmed today by Ostrava's mayor Petr Kajnar. He validated the information from the Novinky.cz website, according to which Ostrava risks having to return a hundred million crown grant and a fine of the same amount. According to him, the police requested documentation for all city contracts from the last five years, and this was one of them. If the mistake is confirmed, Ostrava would have to return European grants, he added.
"I do not expect the company to have made a mistake; we believe that everything was in order. However, if a mistake is proven and we have to return the grant, it will be in connection with this company's error," said Kajnar. The city would then seek damages from Seller. The Evolution Pavilion, costing approximately 128 million crowns, is the most expensive construction in the history of the Ostrava Zoo. It has been completed for several months but has not yet been put into operation.
