Ostrava - Ostrava has announced a tender for a contractor who will prepare project documentation for the reconstruction of the Municipal Stadium in Vítkovice for the city. The city aims to renovate the stadium by 2011, and the reconstruction will cost approximately 300 million crowns, Mayor Petr Kajnar (ČSSD) told reporters today. The city has allocated about 4.7 million crowns for the preparation of project documentation. The project should be based on the project documentation for the construction of the Moravian National Sports Center, which included the reconstruction of the Municipal Stadium in Vítkovice for the needs of athletics and football. However, the city stepped back from it some time ago due to its financial demands. The representatives eventually favored a variant where the existing athletic stadium will be reconstructed, and a completely new football stadium will be built. The new project must account for the modernization of the athletic stadium in Vítkovice to have a capacity of at least 12,000 spectators. Alongside the second division football team from Vítkovice, Baník Ostrava could temporarily play there, as their home ground at Bazaly will not meet the Českomoravský Football Association's criteria by 2011. However, the reconstructed Municipal Stadium should meet the requirements of both the ČMFS and UEFA in its future form. The existing concrete standing areas in the arches of the stadium will be repaired and reconstructed for seated spectators, while the concrete standing areas opposite the grandstand will be removed and a new grandstand will be built. The deadline for submitting bids for the preparation of the project is December 1.
