Ostrava - The city of Ostrava, together with the central district of Moravská Ostrava and Přívoz, wants to find a temporary solution for the unsightly gap next to Masaryk Square. The grassy area could in the future be redesigned so that smaller exhibitions or other cultural events could be held there. This was stated today by Deputy Mayor Kateřina Šebestová (ANO). The city plans for the unattractive gap to be filled within five to ten years.

In connection with transforming the area, the city has also prepared a public debate that will take place next Monday at 18:00 in the Old Arena. "City and district representatives will discuss not only with the public but also with experts on how we could utilize that gap in the future," stated Šebestová.

The city plans to develop the gap in the future. According to the deputy mayor, it has not yet been possible to completely resolve the complex property relations. "Until then, we would like to cultivate this space so that it can offer various functions, such as hosting small concerts or various debates," said Šebestová. At the same time, it is necessary for the place to continue to be used for some seasonal events, such as a summer sand area or a winter ice rink.

"The space is in terrible condition; it's unsightly. The greenery also needs maintenance, so we said we need some other solution that would serve as a relaxation and leisure zone," added Šebestová.

Architect Ondřej Vysloužil is already working on an architectural study of the site for the city. The study should be completed by the end of April, and the author should also consider the opinions of residents or owners of adjacent businesses. The space is expected to start being modified no sooner than next year. The city anticipates that costs will be in the millions of crowns.
