On Saturday, January 14, eight years will have passed since the sudden departure of Jan Kaplický - a Czech architect known especially for his visionary approach to architecture, ecological and unconventional solutions inspired by organic shapes. Supporters can remember Kaplický's work at the retrospective exhibition "JKOK The Infinity of Jan Kaplický" at the Dancing House Gallery, which runs until March 12 on the occasion of his 80th birthday this year. In honor of Kaplický's works, the model of the "Biennale Tower" will be moved from the space in front of the Dancing House to the architect's native Prague 6 after the exhibition. The Prague Property Administration will lend the object to the area indefinitely, having purchased it in October 2016 from the KAPLICKY CENTRE foundation.

"Prague 6 greatly values the personality and works of Jan Kaplický. This year we plan to place a commemorative plaque in front of the town hall building. We will certainly take the opportunity to place the Biennale Tower and are selecting the most suitable location for it," says Martin Polách, deputy mayor of Prague 6 for public space. "This model will be lent to Prague 6 by the Prague Property Administration indefinitely as a reminder of the visionary ideas and works of Jan Kaplický. Kaplický grew up on Pod Vyhlídkou street in the villa district of Ořechovka," revealed Robert Vůjtek, director of the Dancing House Gallery.

The design of the "Biennale Tower" from 2002 is a 1:100 scale model created by Kaplický's studio Future Systems at the invitation of Deyan Sudjic - the curator of the Venice Biennale. The Future Systems design introduced a completely new type of urban building. The tower has a unique aerodynamic shape with an opening that reduces wind pressure at the top. The model in front of the Dancing House was made according to the original design in August 2016 as a self-supporting fiberglass shell with a painted acrylic surface. It measures 4.2 meters and weighs 150 kilograms.

Everyone can remember Kaplický's personality at the exhibition "JKOK The Infinity of Jan Kaplický," which lasts until March 12, 2017. Over three floors of the Dancing House, the exhibition offers visitors iconic works or designs of the author, the architect's roots, the personal dimension of the architect's legacy, and Kaplický's creative realization process and its individual phases.

As part of the exhibition "JKOK The Infinity of Jan Kaplický," accompanying lectures are taking place. The guarantor of the exhibition, architect Eva Jiřičná, prepared "Talking About Johan" at the beginning of last December, where she reminisced about Kaplický's life and career. Additionally, curator Ladislav Zikmund-Lender and the graphic designer of the exhibition Alan Záruba conducted commented lectures. In the second half of February, a lecture by Eliška Kaplicky Fuchsová titled "Life, Work, Foundation" is planned.

The exhibition JKOK The Infinity of Jan Kaplický will be open at the Dancing House Gallery from November 8, 2016, to March 12, 2017, every day between 09:00 and 20:00. More information can be found at www.galerietancicidum.cz.
