Prague - The National Museum will receive a new information and orientation system that will connect the historic building and the new building. The main building reopened on October 28 after a three-year reconstruction, and since then, people have been standing in long lines to tour the partially accessible building. In the competition for the orientation system, which involved five teams, the proposal by the team Roman Černohous and esté architects won. This was announced today by Jarmila Řehořková from the Czechdesign company, which organized the competition.

The contract, which the team will work on for several months, has a financial value of 500,000 crowns. The new orientation system for the NM will be completed in 2019. The winning team proposed maroon-colored panels that adapt to the surface of the walls of both the historic and new buildings, thereby not imposing significantly on the space. The variability as well as the usability in both stylistically different buildings impressed the jury the most in the winning proposal.

"The main element is metal panels that respond to their specific placement in the space and adapt to both buildings. They do not act as physical or visual barriers, allowing unobstructed movement through all accessible zones and exhibitions, yet they are easily recognizable,"
the authors stated.

The contacted authors were tasked with creating a team consisting of a graphic designer and a product designer or architect for the competition. Four other groups also competed: Petr Hák Architecture/Design and studio Okolo, Stanislav Holý and studio Miroko Maroko, Ondřej Horáček and Mjölk architects, and the last team consisted of Markéta Steinert and Herrmann & Coufal.
