Karlovy Vary - The repair of the emergency condition of the facilities of Karlovy Vary's Vřídlo is nearing completion. However, work will continue on the restoration of the Vřídelní Colonnade, where the main therapeutic natural source of the spa town is located. According to the Deputy Mayor of Karlovy Vary, Petr Bursík (ODS), everything should be completed by the beginning of the next spa season in May, he told reporters today.
Repairs to the Vřídelní Colonnade from the mid-1970s have two parts: one concerns the emergency condition of the technology for capturing and distributing thermal water under the colonnade's floor, while the other part relates to eliminating defects in the colonnade building itself.
"Currently, we can see the installation of so-called Peikko beams. Following that, the concrete ceiling structure will be done. This was the essence of the emergency condition in the thermal hall, which was why the facility was closed," Bursík described the current state of the repairs to the Vřídlo facilities.
"What is currently uncovered will be covered with concrete, an accumulator will be placed in the opening, internal and external technical pipelines will be made, and the new ceiling structure will be concreted. This will eliminate the emergency condition as determined by the building authority," Bursík noted.
The steel Peikko beams are expected to relieve the structure separating the underground technological part of Vřídlo from the thermal hall. New types of concrete, which should be significantly more resistant than the original from the 1970s, will also be used. The gradual degradation of the concrete, which was affected by aggressive vapors from the thermal water, was one of the main reasons why the Vřídelní Colonnade had to be gradually closed and the Vřídlo spring had to be relocated in front of the building.
The final step in the restoration of the colonnade should involve three new boreholes, which are intended to replace the boreholes from the time of the construction of the colonnade that were originally just test holes.
The repairs to the Vřídelní Colonnade are expected to be completed for approximately 42 million crowns, of which about 15 million crowns is allocated for the reconstruction of the thermal technology, that is, the technology for capturing and processing hot mineral water.
