Opava - The Opava city hall wants to renovate the ice rink for 130 million crowns. A study has already been developed. According to it, the capacity will be reduced. The plan still needs to be approved by the councilors. The work should start no later than 2022. Mayor Tomáš Navrátil (ANO) said this to reporters today.
The city hall approached three architectural firms with a request to develop the study. Each received 100,000 crowns for their proposal. The selected firm will prepare the final project after the proposal is approved by the council. The Opava ice rink was built in 1953 and was roofed as the third in the republic in 1956. Its current capacity is 5,500 spectators. It is set to be reduced to approximately 2,000 spectators. "The capacity of 1,480 seats is to be for sitting, while another 533 places are for standing spectators," Navrátil stated.
He mentioned that after the renovation, Opava should have a modern ice rink that meets current requirements. "The study addresses, for example, the entrance vestibule, changing rooms, and facilities for athletes," he added. According to him, if the project is completed this year and the tender for the contractor is announced, work could begin as early as 2021.
