Brno – The area surrounding the so-called White House in Brno will be enhanced by a large-scale colorful painting on the pavement. It is intended to delight mainly the children who attend the school and polyclinic located in the area. Discussions are also underway regarding the landscaping and further steps that will lead to the cultivation of the space at Žerotínovo náměstí in the center of Brno, Hana Novosadová from the municipal company TIC Brno informed in a press release today.
Under the auspices of the candidacy for the European Capital of Culture, Brno received a grant from the Bloomberg Philanthropies foundation last autumn specifically for beautifying the public space in front of the White House. The grant amounts to $25,000 (approximately 536,000 crowns), added Simona Osičková from the Brno 2028 office.
An expert committee called for artists to submit proposals and selected the concept by Patrik Antzak and Jakub Jahn titled I see a lot of good people. Their colorful vision, composed of figures of people and geometric ornaments, will be realized in May and June with public involvement. The sidewalk is to become a space that invites play, with motifs that are variable and can be expanded and completed. The jury also emphasized the ecological aspect of the project. The authors intend to use an innovative nanotechnology coating that also cleans the air.
The White House is a former administrative building of the city committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia from the 1970s, which now largely serves as a polyclinic. It also includes the Břetislav Bakala Hall, which will be the future home of the Bolka Polívka Theatre.
