Prague - The National Gallery in Prague has launched new web pages, which represent the fourth generation of its online presentation. The homepage is dominated by images over text, and next to news for visitors, there is a newly added link to a video. The first one offers an interview with painter Jan Pištěk, who is currently exhibiting at the NG.
Social media fans can follow the NG page on Facebook through the homepage. The NG blog will also be available, and gradually, documents about NG's artworks and virtual tours of selected exhibitions will be presented.
"The aim is to introduce visitors to the National Gallery in Prague in all its forms, with a rich offer of temporary exhibitions, permanent collections, as well as accompanying programs, and to facilitate their orientation," said NG spokeswoman Eva Kolerusová to ČTK. According to her, the role of the gallery's website in providing scientific, professional, methodological, and art-historical information, which will be gradually supplemented, is also retained.
According to NG representatives, the purpose of creating the new pages is also to present the gallery as a place where something is always happening and where people can find not only visual arts but also theater, music, or dance. An English version is intended for foreign visitors, and selected visitor pages will gradually be added in other world languages: German, French, or Russian. An official electronic catalog of the National Gallery Collections, which is undergoing reconstruction, will also be added.
A new feature will be profiles of NG’s professional staff - curators, educators, as well as other employees - linked to current exhibitions and accompanying programs. A new press center will also be available for journalists.
