Jablonec nad Nisou - The new transport terminal in Jablonec nad Nisou will be made of glass, and the roof of the main building will be covered with greenery. The costs are estimated at 200 million crowns, and the city wants to apply for grants from the Integrated Regional Development Program Liberec-Jablonec. The city hall received nine proposals, but eventually only two met the demanding requirements. The winner was the proposal from the Prague studio DOMYJINAK architects, with whom the city hall will now negotiate the project preparation. This was stated to journalists today by Deputy Mayor Lukáš Pleticha (ČSSD).

"We aimed to expand the urban space of Dolní náměstí with a pedestrian zone, where there would be a building serving not only transportation but, mainly, the citizens of the city. We tried to incorporate the Nisa River into that public space. Another intention was to create a pair of flying roofs that would create a green-roofed landscape. This corresponds with the forecourt of the Glass Museum,"
said one of the authors of the proposal, Petr Šikola. The project includes, among other things, the construction of a weir on the Nisa River, which will raise the water level and bring it closer to the people. The project also features a glass bridge that will connect the terminal with the city and the nearby train station.

The shape of the terminal was sought by the city in an open urban-architectural competition. It took almost a year just to develop the assignment. The independent organizer and administrator of the competition was the company MOBA Studio. "This competition was very precisely defined; Jablonec was looking for a quality partner for the implementation of a challenging transport-urban project. We are convinced that the client has gained a quality project team for the coming years of cooperation. The city will gain a new center," said Igor Kovačević on behalf of the organizers of the competition.

Jablonec plans to build a terminal with an underground parking lot for two hundred vehicles. According to Mayor Petr Beitl (ODS), the project is one of the largest investment actions in the city in recent years. The costs are comparable to the project of the revitalization of heating, which the city completed two years ago. The terminal follows the planned extension of the tram line from Liberec to Jablonec, which is being prepared by the Transport Company of the cities of Liberec and Jablonec. Currently, the tram line ends in Jablonec at Tyršovy sady, and the plan is to extend it through Soukenná Street and Dolní náměstí.
