Prague - Today, more than 17,500 visitors attended the open house at the construction of the new metro stations Veleslavín and Petřiny. The tour route, with a total length of three kilometers, led from the future metro station Veleslavín to the construction site at Vypich, reported the spokeswoman of the company Metrostav, František Polák, to ČTK today.

The new section of metro line A will run from Dejvická station to Motol station and is expected to be completed by the end of next year. Line A will have four new stations - Červený Vrch, Veleslavín, Petřiny, and Motol. However, according to Polák, the final names will likely be Bořislavka, Nádraží Veleslavín, Petřiny, and Nemocnice Motol. The route is being constructed by a consortium of construction companies Metrostav and Hochtief.
The extension of the metro line A was originally expected to cost 21.2 billion crowns. Last October, the Prague public transport company announced that the construction would exceed the budget by about 1.3 billion crowns. The main reason is reportedly a more expensive contract for the installation of technology. This year, Prague borrowed six billion crowns from the European Investment Bank for the construction of the metro. An application has also been made for approximately seven billion crowns in subsidies from the European Union, and a decision on its allocation has not yet been made.
Originally, Prague planned to build the metro all the way to the airport in Ruzyně, but due to a lack of funds, the route was shortened.
