Nymburk – The new pedestrian bridge over the Elbe in Nymburk could cost more than 100 million crowns. The estimates from the designers had calculated 40 million, the increase is due to the situation in the construction market, the project has not changed, said Nymburk mayor Tomáš Mach today to ČTK (Nymburk with peace). The original bridge was demolished by the city last year due to its emergency state.

The city will announce the competition and contractor later, with a known outcome potentially in the spring. However, Nymburk is already counting on the fact that the real amount will significantly exceed the designers' estimates. According to the mayor, the new bridge will cost at least 78 million crowns, but it is realistic that the price will exceed 100 million.

According to Mach, the city has a promised grant from the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure (SFDI), with 99 million allocated for Nymburk. If the winning bid exceeds this amount, the city will have to find additional funding.

"We are already projecting at 78 million, I am afraid of one thing, that the amount coming from the competition will be over 100 million. Nevertheless, the bridge remains a priority," said Mach.

Nymburk closed the original bridge to pedestrians in December 2017, and boats have been prohibited from passing under the bridge since last June, with the city also closing the area on both banks under the bridge at the same time. River traffic was resumed after two months on August 8. The bridge was of the same construction and from the same designer as the bridge in Prague-Troja, which collapsed into the Vltava two years ago.

The project documentation was created by the company Stráský, Hustý and partners. The managing director of the company and the author of the design is designer Jiří Stráský, who also designed the bridge in Prague-Troja and the previous one in Nymburk.
