Brno - The St. Anne's University Hospital in Brno is reconstructing the main entrance to the area from the side of Mendlovo Square for almost five million crowns. The hospital spokesperson Petra Veselá told CTK today. The public will not be able to enter the area through the entrance due to the work from Thursday, November 29, until Saturday, December 1. Entrance will be allowed from Pekařská Street, but only to holders of ZTP cards aside from ambulances. The goal of the reconstruction is to expand the road from two to three lanes. This will particularly help the emergency services, which occasionally have to wait behind other vehicles in the area. The work is expected to last until mid-December.

The construction work includes widening the road from two to three lanes, demolition work, and repairs to the entrance. One lane will be for patients, one for ambulances, and the third for outgoing vehicles. "The reason is the inadequate throughput into the hospital area. Vehicles from the public often obstruct ambulances, especially the rapid emergency services," Veselá stated.

She added that apart from ensuring greater throughput into the area, the construction preparation for the planned parking house, which should connect to these modifications, is also part of the project. "However, we still do not have financial resources for this," Veselá stated. The city plans to build a parking house near the hospital. In the future, it also wants to have parking capacities at the Faculty Hospital Brno or at the Children's Hospital.

From next Thursday to Saturday, due to the work, people will not be able to access the St. Anne's University Hospital area from Mendlovo Square. "We ask visitors to use public transportation or nearby parking during these days, both on Hybešová Street and Mendlovo Square. Unfortunately, without this restriction, it is not technologically possible to complete the reconstruction of the entrance," explained Veselá.

In the spring months, a second investment project will follow for additional funds, which involves the installation of technology for an automated entrance system with license plate readers. The timeline is planned from March to June.
