Proposal for the declaration of a set of buildings from the 1980s as an immovable cultural monument

We would like to announce that on Monday, April 27, 2020, we submitted these proposals for declaration as immovable cultural monuments to the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic:

- Municipal Swimming Pool in Tachov, No. 1868 (Eduard Schleger, Lukáš Liesler, 1980–1992)

- Operational Technical Building of DP Metro in Prague-New Town, No. 360 (Aleš Moravec, František Novotný, 1981–1989)

- Working Theatre in Most, No. 15 (Ivo Klimeš, 1979–1985)

- Culture House with Spa Colonnade in Teplice, No. 2950 (Karel Hubáček, Michael Brix, Martin Rajniš et al., 1977–1986)

- Culture House in Uherský Brod, No. 2187 (František Jelínek, Jiří Zniszczol, 1978–1985)

- Post Office Stodůlky, Prague, No. 1516 (Tomáš Brix, Martin Kotík, Václav Králíček, 1979)

- Senior Home Bohnice, Prague, No. 674 (Jan Línek, Vlado Milunić, 1972–1981)



The selection of buildings is based on the long-term work of a team of experts focused on modern and post-war architecture, which accelerated within the framework of the research project ARCHITECTURE OF THE EIGHTIES IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC (Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic in the NAKI II program – DG18P02OVV013).

However, this is by no means a final, complete set of potential cultural monuments from the seventies and eighties. This underrated yet remarkable era of "bubbling" new ideas is still waiting for its recognition. The list of buildings deserving special care and the attention of the professional community will surely be significantly expanded in the future.

In this case, it is a selection that was created as an evaluation of the content of the recently published book (A)TYP / ARCHITECTURE OF THE EIGHTIES, the first publication of the research project. In our selection, we particularly considered the comprehensive architectural qualities of the original designs, the rigor of execution, their significance for the history of Czech modern architecture and the identity of the place, and last but not least, the excellent authentic condition of these buildings.
