Třebíč - Třebíč is preparing to open an educational trail "In the Footsteps of Abbots and Rabbis." It will connect local monuments - the Basilica of St. Procopius and the Jewish town with its cemetery - listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The trail is being created out of practical need to help tourists navigate the winding and confusing streets of the former Jewish ghetto. The opening of the educational trail on Thursday afternoon will be accompanied by a happening. This was stated today by the director of the municipal cultural center, Jaromíra Hanáčková. "The costs of marking the trail leading through the Jewish quarter and cemetery to the basilica and printing a guide reached approximately 200,000 crowns," said Hanáčková. According to her, the trail will be the only one in the city for now. In Třebíč, all directional signage is set to be replaced next year, which should be standardized and correspond to the city’s graphic manual. New signs should also lead to the reconstructed castle complex, which Hanáčková said will become another tourist attraction. According to data from tourist information centers, around 40,000 tourists visit Třebíč's Jewish monuments annually. "Overall, last year the number of visitors to the city exceeded 100,000 for the first time," said Hanáčková. The Basilica of St. Procopius was inscribed on the UNESCO list alongside the Jewish quarter in mid-2003. The inscription on the prestigious list significantly increased the number of visitors to Třebíč.
