Prague - The National Library will be temporarily led by Petr Kroupa, who previously worked at the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ) in Brno. Culture Minister Daniel Herman (KDU-ČSL) introduced him to the position today. A selection process for the director of the National Library will be announced, said ministry spokesperson Simona Cigánková to ČTK today. In March, after four years at the head of the library, Tomáš Böhm finished his term and just a few days ago, his successor, the minister-appointed director Miroslav Rovenský (KDU-ČSL), also resigned. Petr Kroupa has previously worked as the director of the Methodological Center of Modern Architecture at NPÚ in Brno. The ministry states that Kroupa is a respected expert in the field of heritage care and has experience managing numerous investment projects. He is not affiliated with any political party. Until 2013, he led the Brno branch of NPÚ, but he was dismissed from the position by NPÚ General Director Naďa Goryczková - according to her, his tenure ended due to management errors. However, both were involved in a dispute over the new arrangement of the NPÚ structure, with Kroupa criticizing Goryczková's proposal that ultimately prevailed. The Methodological Center of Modern Architecture, based in the Stiassni Villa in Brno-Pisárky, which focuses on the study of modern architecture, was established last year. The National Library is currently one of the major investors among public institutions. The multi-year revitalization of Klementinum will cost a total of 1.88 billion, with 600 million already spent. This year, the National Library will be awarding a contract for the final phase of revitalization, which is largely construction-related and valued at nearly one billion crowns.
