Hranice – The design of the new train station in Hranice, located in the Přerov region, will emerge from the project of the Swiss-Czech consortium Nemec Taller Architektur, consisting of architect Lukáš Taller and transportation construction designer Miroslav Vondřich. The consortium's proposal won in the architectural-urban competition for the new train terminal. The results were announced today in Hranice by the Railway Administration (SŽ). The winning project impressed the jury with its elegant design and ability to adapt to the future transportation needs of the city. Construction of the new station could begin at the end of 2027 and take approximately three years. After the announcement of the results, SŽ's Deputy General Director Mojmír Nejezchleb stated this to ČTK.
The architects proposed a building with a roof shaped like a prominent transparent lantern. The underpass to the platforms, viaduct, roof over the bus stops in front of the station, and parking facility are individual structures that connect to each other. "We see a deep meaning in strengthening the function of Hranice as a city for work, living, nearby recreation, and 21st-century industry, as defined by the city's programmatic concept. With faster accessibility, the vicinity of the station will become the focal point of Moravia for transfers to the world. This will develop the strengths of this location and further enhance the potential of Hranice," said Taller.
According to Nejezchleb, the station in Hranice will become a key transfer point for long-distance, suburban, and individual transportation. Hranice is located on the route of the planned high-speed rail line Moravská brána, connecting Brodek u Přerova with Ostrava. The current station is situated in the middle of the tracks, which, according to Nejezchleb, complicates its expansion and modernization. Therefore, the new building will be constructed at a different location within the railway area to allow for longer platforms and provide a safer crossing for passengers. From the transport model, it is expected that by 2050, the Hranice station will serve 9,800 passengers on weekdays and 7,800 on weekends. Immediately after the launch of the high-speed line, four high-speed trains per hour should stop at the station.
The new station building will serve both the current conventional railway and high-speed trains, which will also enable easier connections for long-distance express trains from Olomouc through Valašské Meziříčí and Vsetín to Slovakia. "The connection of Hranice to the high-speed rail line will significantly ease commuting not only for work. The journey from Hranice to Ostrava will be reduced to half an hour, to Olomouc will take 20 minutes, and the train will reach Brno in an hour. We expect that the easy accessibility of these cities will bring new impulses for the development of Hranice and the entire region," added Nejezchleb.
All 11 competition proposals for the new station building can be viewed at an exhibition in the Hranice synagogue, which will be open to the public from July 26 to September 21, every Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM.
