Brno - Two buildings for refreshments and facilities will be constructed at the Riviéra swimming pool complex in Brno for more than 50 million crowns. The councilors today approved the allocation of funds to the city company Starez-Sport, which manages the complex. The work is expected to start later this year and be completed in the first half of next year.

Forty councilors voted for the allocation of funds to the city company, four opposition councilors from SPD voted against it, and one councilor from the opposition ANO abstained. Ivan Fencl (SPD) proposed to withdraw the item and labeled the price for the two buildings as high. However, the management of Starez-Sport stated in front of the councilors that the buildings would serve for decades.

Construction is expected to start in November this year. Refreshments and facilities will be created, replacing the inadequate buffets that, according to the city, do not meet standards. The buildings will offer not only refreshments but also restrooms for visitors, showers, and changing rooms for summer activities, day camps, and public events. There are also plans for improvements to sidewalks and service and delivery routes.

The city aims to turn the area into a social-relaxation center and sports facility with year-round operations. In the future, there are plans to build a beach volleyball court there.

The Riviéra swimming pool reopened last year after a one-year reconstruction costing more than 200 million crowns. Last year, Riviéra recorded an attendance of around 168,000 people, and data for this year is not yet known.
