Brno – At the reconstructed Zvonařka bus station in Brno, half of the platforms are currently operational. The remaining ones need to have their information systems fine-tuned, without which the platforms cannot be launched. They are expected to be functional by early January. The new dispatch building is still inaccessible to passengers. Although it appears ready at first glance, it lacks a tested information system and the necessary administration. Antonín Grund, chairman of the board of ČSAD Brno-město holding, which owns the station, said this today to ČTK.

"Without information systems, all platforms cannot be launched, as passengers would be confused. Even now, some less observant individuals have difficulty finding the right one. However, they can find all the necessary information from the existing signs, and all the staff walking around the station can assist them as well," Grund stated. Previously, more than 800 connections passed through the station on weekdays, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, their number has dropped to about 500.

The transformation of the station from the turn of the 1970s and 1980s cost more than 100 million crowns. It has been discussed for several years, particularly due to unsightly stalls. The first phase of the work began last November. It mainly involved cleaning and painting the iron structure and overall illuminating the station with nearly 400 new lights. The second phase started this February. It included changing and modernizing the platforms and constructing a new dispatch building made of glass and aluminum.

"Now all the necessary equipment is in place, but the commercial units are still unoccupied. We estimate they will be open in the first quarter of next year," Grund added. The comfort of the new station will also be supported next year by the completed relocation of the tram line from Dornych Street to Plotní, creating a new public transport stop near the station.
