Pavlov - In Pavlov, near Břeclav, an archaeological park dedicated to mammoth hunters is unlikely to be built. The Mikulov Museum, which wanted to establish it, failed to purchase the land in time and consequently did not obtain European funding. The regional representatives have now withdrawn their support for the project. They reversed their earlier decision to co-finance the construction today. The project is thus "put on hold". It remains in the plans. According to unofficial information from the regional office, it is, however, uncertain whether there will be funding for it.

The park was to promote the area where researcher Karel Absolon once found the statue of the Věstonice Venus. Visitors were to see skeletal excavations, remnants of ancient settlements, and artistic objects from prehistoric times in a modern exhibition pavilion.
The planned costs for the construction and equipping of the archaeological park were 84 million crowns. Construction was supposed to take place from this year until 2013. The region was to contribute 13 million crowns. Another two million from the budget was to be allocated to the Mikulov Museum in connection with the plan. Today, the representatives canceled the support.
The Pavlov Hills were among the most densely populated areas in Europe during the Stone Age. Due to the numerous discovered settlements, archaeologists even nicknamed the site the Paleolithic New York. "We have a significant debt towards this area. It should have had a modern exhibition long ago," said Petr Kubín, the director of the Mikulov Museum, to ČTK last year. He emphasized that Věstonice is considerably lagging behind other well-known archaeological areas - the German Neanderthal and the Austrian Willendorf.
