Liberec - The construction of the year for the Liberec region in 2011 is a new multifunctional center in the Liberec part of Vratislavice. The expert jury was impressed by its functionality, the combination of modern first elements and exposed concrete, as well as the bold interior solution. However, the new Multifunctional Center of Three Countries in Hrádek nad Nisou scored higher with the public. Almost 30 percent of the people who participated in voting through the internet or daily press gave it their vote. CTK informed today that the spokesperson of the regional office, Květa Šírová, announced this. The construction of the multifunctional center in Vratislavice cost 90 million crowns, while the costs for the one in Hrádek were half of that, with the majority covered by the European Union. The complex consists of a sensitively reconstructed building in the main square of Hrádek, behind which hides a modern multifunctional annex. “Thanks to this building, we have mainly been able to host many social events that previously had no space in Hrádek. We have a city museum there and also a city cinema again with the most modern technology,” said the mayor of Hrádek, Martin Půta, to CTK. The town hall would like to expand the complex in the future to include a city library. “We already have a study prepared for one neighboring building,” added Půta. Hrádek nad Nisou succeeded twice in this year's seventh edition of the regional competition. It also won third place in the main competition, as the jury appreciated the revitalization of the historic city center. This project, costing almost 70 million crowns, was also co-financed by European funds. The jury was particularly impressed by the reconstruction's sensitivity in addressing archaeological finds in the area and how they were seamlessly integrated into the finished work. For example, architects incorporated a medieval well, discovered by archaeologists, into the new design of Horní náměstí. It is covered by glass and illuminated, allowing residents and visitors of the city to glimpse inside. The second place in the construction of the year competition went to the newly constructed Kamenský House in the Museum of the Bohemian Paradise in Turnov. The building is a faithful replica of the last wooden house in the city and especially drew the jury's attention for its use of period building techniques and well-crafted exterior. The jury also awarded the Forum Shopping Center, which received the award of Štěpán Ješ. Student Vojtěch Feigl from the Secondary Technical School of Building Liberec also received an award today for the project of a low-energy conference hotel. He was awarded the Construction of the Year Liberec Region Junior 2011.
