Moravská Třebová - Next week, repairs will begin on the Pastýřka lookout tower near Moravská Třebová in the Svitavy region, which is ten years old. The town hall closed it in February due to poor structural integrity. The city plans to reopen it on September 1. Václav Dokoupil, a spokesperson for the city, stated this to ČTK.
During a regular inspection, experts discovered a deteriorating condition of a wooden post affected by wood-destroying fungus during the winter. Therefore, the city decided to close the lookout tower and avoid the risk of an accident. A professional company will replace the damaged post with a steel one.
"We will achieve the necessary safety and, if possible, also the original appearance of the lookout tower. The installation of the steel post is a complicated operation to prevent any deformation of the structure while removing the original wooden element," said Dokoupil.
The city expects to open the lookout tower on September 1, or possibly already in August. The costs for repairs should not exceed 150,000 crowns. The town hall opened Pastýřka in 2009. Tourists will find it in the area of Pastvisko at an altitude of 516 meters above sea level. From a height of 27 meters, it offers views of the Orlické Mountains, Buková Mountain, Jeseníky, the Králický Sněžník massif, and the Zábřeh Highlands.
The lookout tower consists of a wooden structure and a steel spiral staircase. The building has reinforced concrete foundations and was designed by Jan Škoda, a native of Moravská Třebová. Originally, a lookout tower stood at the site, named after Prince Jan Lichtenštejn.
