Moravská Třebová - Moravská Třebová in the Svitavy region will begin repairs on its covered swimming pool at the turn of September and October, which has been closed since last October due to its emergency condition. The costs are estimated at 35 million Czech crowns. Miroslav Netolický, head of the city's development department, told ČTK. "By the end of next year, children might be able to swim in it. But I can never guarantee this in advance," said Netolický.
The work will begin on schedule if the city selects one of the three bids and none of the companies appeals. There are no subsidies for these projects, so the town hall will fully cover it from its budget, Netolický stated.
The pool, which serves for swimming education for children from three local schools, was so damaged that a structural engineer recommended its closure. Concrete is falling from the reinforced concrete ceilings in the basement, and the pipes are corroding. The pool measures 17 meters; the city considered expanding it, but that would be too expensive. "We debated a lot about it serving the public as well, but the prevailing opinion was that it will only be for school education. However, it will be modern, and we have a solution for the next 50 years because the situation there was very poor," said Netolický.
According to him, the schools have alternative plans for ensuring swimming courses. The pool is at Palacký Primary School. Its students mostly have their swimming education fulfilled. Children from other schools commute for swimming courses, for example, to Mohelnice.
