Urban Interventions Ostrava 2013 - catalog

The catalog for the exhibition Městské zásahy Ostrava 2013 / Urban Interventions Ostrava 2013 is a result of a project that provided both active residents and representatives of creative professions (architects, engineers, designers, artists, and others) the opportunity to express their views on the city in which they live through proposals for "interventions" into the city's territory. Proposals for changes that residents of Ostrava would welcome are presented in the form of visually processed projects, executed in the manner of traditional architectural designs in A1 format. The publication presents the most characteristic visualizations of each "intervention" and is metaphorically divided into three sections. The first deals with the theme of renewal and humanization of space, the second section contains visions of "sometime in the future," and the third section presents actions intended as provocations, manifestos, cries for help, or jokes.
After the announcement of a public call (2013), 58 proposals from 43 authors, both from professional and lay backgrounds, were accepted in the following three months. The catalog provides the residents of Ostrava with the necessary self-reflection on the life of the city and its perspectives, and as a bonus, it includes statistics on the addressed interventions. The point of the volunteer initiative is the awakening of civic interest (which is not a given), as well as its cultivation and the opening of dialogue with government institutions, thereby finding consensual solutions.
