Ostrov - A construction company is working on the replacement of the large pool with a stainless steel basin at the municipal swimming pool in Ostrov in the Karlovy Vary region. The work follows the renovation of the small pools, which the city completed this year. The new stainless steel pool with slides is expected to be ready next year before the summer season. At the same time, the main building of the swimming pool is being prepared for reconstruction, where a sauna center is to be created, said Deputy Mayor Marek Poledníček (independent) to ČTK today.
"The pool will be divided into two parts, one will be swimming, with four 25-meter swimming lanes, and behind a barrier there will be a relaxation area where interested parties can rest. There will also be a smaller pool with climbing structures and landing areas from the new slide," said Poledníček.
The original pool was in poor condition. The city had to partially repair it every year, such as with fallen tiles, which was costly. The new pool will be made of stainless steel. It will include two slides of varying lengths, water cannons, and rope elements.
Work on the pool replacement began in September, with completion expected next year before the start of the summer season. The costs should not exceed 50 million crowns. The city leadership previously had two small children's pools renovated. The replacement of the steel basins with the new technology cost about 15 million crowns.
Almost 70 years after the establishment of the swimming pool, the main building with facilities and ticket offices will also be renovated. The original structure will be demolished and a completely new one will be built. The intention of the sixteen-thousand-strong city is to build a modern wellness center and sauna world there. A project is currently being prepared, and the city hall would like to begin reconstruction next year. The costs are now estimated at 40 million crowns.
