NÁCHOD - The significantly dilapidated and non-functioning spa in Náchod-Bělovsi will likely be saved by the Náchod city hall. The city council today unanimously approved the plan to buy the company owning the spa from entrepreneurs Miroslav Borůvka and Marian Khalifa. The entrepreneurs are asking for 78 million crowns for the company and other sold assets. The city leadership will now negotiate the terms of the sale with them. The last patients were treated in the spa in 1996.
The city would also acquire the Jirásek farm complex and the bottling facility of the once-famous Běloves mineral water, Ida, according to Náchod city hall spokesperson Nina Svobodová. "We could utilize the bottling plant. The city brewery would help in bringing the mineral water back to the market," she said.
The main aim of the city is the restoration of the spa, which according to initial estimates will cost up to several hundred million crowns. The city intends to use funds from the European Union for its financing. According to councilors, the spa could contribute to the development of tourism, services, transportation, the local hospital, and hospitality and accommodation.
The purchase of the spa, the farm, and the bottling plant would likely be financed by a loan. According to city officials, the city has no burdensome debts, and the loan should not jeopardize its financial health.
The spa, in a destitute state, was issued in the early 90s to two restitution claimants. The non-state healthcare facility that operated in the spa in the early 90s did not have enough patients, went significantly into debt, and ceased operations in 1996. The spa was then bought by the company SIMA consulting, and in 2000 by entrepreneurs Borůvka and Khalifa.
