Prague – The leadership of the capital city wants to replace the festive lighting of Vyšehrad with a more modern and energy-efficient solution. The parameters it should meet will be determined by a working group. This group will consist of representatives from the National Heritage Institute, the National Cultural Monument (NKM) Vyšehrad, the Technology of the Capital City of Prague (THMP), and six other organizations. The city council decided today to establish this group.

The current lighting has been in use since 2000. "The existing festive lighting of the NKM Vyšehrad is technologically and morally outdated and unsuitable from a preservation standpoint. Its regular maintenance is demanding and inefficient, given the obsolescence of individual components, as is its operation," says the rationale behind the resolution.

The nine-member group will work for approximately four months. THMP will then be responsible for the replacement of the lighting.

The southern section of the fortifications is 115 meters long and is illuminated by 17 floodlights. The northern section of the fortifications, measuring 440 meters, is lit by 61 floodlights. A total of 41 floodlights aim at the Basilica of St. Peter and Paul. The lighting of other structures, such as Slavín, the Rotunda of St. Martin, and the Tábor and Leopold gates, is provided by 12 floodlights.
