Pardubice - In the summer, Pardubice will repair part of Masaryk Square. The repairs will last from July to August. The city hall will soon publish the schedule of work. This was stated to ČTK by the deputy mayor Helena Dvořáčková (ANO).

"We have selected a contractor, and the building permit is in place. The construction work is planned for two months,"
said Dvořáčková.

The city is reconstructing one part, the area from the Magnum center to the intersection by the ice rink. A large number of buses and trolleybuses stop daily in the square. The construction company must plan the work so that it does not disrupt public transport and people can walk through the square.

"The surface of the sidewalk in this area is really terrible. The repaired space will stylistically connect to Mírová Street. The reconstruction will take place in the summer when traffic is somewhat less busy,"
said Mayor Martin Charvát (ANO).

The city completed the repairs of Mírová Street in the spring of 2015. The sidewalks on 17th November Street, which connect to it, were repaired last year, with work finishing in the fall. They are made of concrete paving and resemble the granite surface on Mírová Street. However, unlike granite, the concrete is treated with impregnation to prevent the sidewalks from getting so dirty.

In addition to the reconstruction of Masaryk Square, Pardubice is planning an expensive transformation of Palackého Street in the city center. They have completed a study. The first phase of the reconstruction of the road leading to the main train station could begin in two years. According to architects and urban planners, the neglected space needs a change and should offer a small playground, corners with benches, and gardens where people can enjoy a coffee. The area will be enhanced, for example, by a new row of trees.
