Prague - One can encounter the works of architect Martin Rajniš in many, often unusual, places across the country. The architect, who will celebrate his seventieth birthday on May 16, is, among others, the author or co-author of the Czech Post Office at Sněžka, Forest Lodge near Písek, the award-winning Prague factory of Sipral, and several lookout towers. Rajniš, a Prague native, studied architecture at the Czech Technical University and then worked for many years at the respected Liberec studio SIAL, led by Karel Hubáček, where he co-authored the Prague department store Máj, among other projects. After ten years, he left SIAL and worked on numerous other significant projects, including being the author of the Transport History Pavilion at the World Expo EXPO in Vancouver and collaborating on the Prague project Nový Smíchov in the 1990s. Currently, he primarily designs airy and well-lit wooden structures. Besides the post office, these include the Bára lookout tower near Chrudim and the Lighthouse and museum of Jára Cimrman near Příchovice in the Jizera Mountains. Professor Rajniš has previously taught architecture at the AAAD in Prague and served as a judge on the court of the Czech Chamber of Architects, which he helped to establish.
